Deck Outdoor Practica

January 10, 2018, 1:00pm - January 24, 2018, 3:00pm

A stunning outdoor venue for Practica (hopefully!) accompanied by a nice cooling breeze! If the deck is wet or if we aren't on the deck, please go to the ASB Foyer (our backup location), corner of Jellicoe & Halsey Streets. The deck practica is a free and relaxed event to practice tango, enjoy the music and the stunning view, catch-up with friends, or just dance. Please come and join us. About the viewing deck The viewing deck is located behind The ANZ Events Centre, Wynyard Quarter. It is an outdoor but secluded space with excellent view of the harbour. A wonderful environment for practica from sunset into the night. In the event of rain, the roof will keep us reasonably dry. Direction ANZ Events Centre is the building across the Wynyard Quarter Waterfront Milonga venue. You will see a ramp up to the viewing deck on the right hand side of the ANZ Events Centre entrance, near the Wynyard Crossing (the open footbridge). Once you are on top of the deck, just simply follow the Tango music and you will find us. On the left hand side of the building, there’s also a stairs towards the deck. Footwear The deck is reasonably smooth with small gaps between panels and it has been tested by the organisers in heels, dance sneakers and normal flat shoes. They don’t appear to have any trouble with the gaps. However, we would suggest ladies to bring both heels and flat shoes/dance sneakers. Things to bring Please bring your own drinks, food, blankets and feel free to bring your own chair, since there are no benches around. We usually bring 2 or 3 blankets to sit on or wrap around; so if you need some, just ask. There are coffee shop, ice cream shop, and many restaurants nearby, though they might already close at 10pm. Toilet There’s a public toilet available close to the venue, behind the Wynyard Quarter information centre. Drinking water fountain There’s one located nearby, behind the Wynyard Quarter information centre. Parking There’s Jellicoe Street car park, about 7 mins away from venue; at the intersection of Jellicoe & Beaumont Streets. The last time we checked the parking fees were as follows: Mon-Fri 7.00am- 10.00pm (free parking after 10p). 1 hr: Free 2 hr: $6.00 3 hr: $12.00 4 hr: $18.00 Sat & Sun 7.00am-10.00pm (free parking after 10p). 1 hr: Free 2 hr: $2.00 3 hr: $4.00 4 hr: $6.00 Payment with credit cards will incur $0.50 transaction fees. There’s also some free on-street parking around, just make sure you read the parking signs in that area. Photos & Social Media Please use #thedeck in any of your social media posts. Backup location In case it rains heavily or when you get to the venue and nobody is there, please check the foyer of ASB Bank. It's on the corner of Jellicoe and Halsey Streets; between Marvel Grill, and Johnny Barr's. For more accurate pin drop on the map, please check: aucklandtango.co.nz/event/the-deck-practica-2/?instance_id=14816 All enquiries Alex email: alexkusuma@1sweetlove.com mobile: +64(0)21 046 8785 Sonny email: sonny.berlin.nz@gmail.com mobile: +64(0)27 326 6288

I like his advice, it's a free course for male leaders although today's lesson applies to everyone - be happy, enjoy tango & Smile 🤣 also my favourite dancers have Always accepted me, as I am...
..." MAKE PEOPLE FEEL GOOD
This is one of those things which are important in every human interaction, not only milongas. If you want to have good time on any milonga its better if you make people around you happy. Spreading good mood is not hard, but many people seem to forget this simple truth.

Being competitive, showing off on the dancefloor, pushing around for better position for cabeceo or any other reason is not enough to spoil the evening.

This is also important in your relationship with your dancing partner. Make her feel good: ask her questions she likes to answer, make a joke or talk about things which make people feel positive.

Old milongueros considered tango a big party – there is no reason you should not as well.

DON’T JUDGE

Let me begin this point with an example. It is a segment of a conversation which I had with one of my most favorite dancers. She is a teacher and very experienced dancer. We talked about her favorite dancers and when I asked her to explain why she likes one of them, she said:

“It feels like he is in love in my dancing. I do not feel that he is bothered if I make mistake. There is no judging, there is no forcing or insisting on anything. I feel like he unconditionally accepts everything I do.”

This is something which I have heard before. People like to feel accepted when they express themselves. Dancing is exactly that – expressing who you are. You can not expect good connection if you are not able to accept how your partner is dancing.

Focusing on her mistakes is one of the biggest obstacles. I had this problem myself.

As a teacher I formed this bad habit of analyzing my partners’ dances. I had to work on myself a lot to change that and to get more enjoyment in their dancing and their energy. And also, to allow them to enjoy my dancing and energy.

YOUR HOMEWORK

They say that tango starts with a look in the eyes. Let’s make an experiment: let’s start every dance with a smile instead. From your next milonga before the start every tanda give your partner a big smile looking at her eyes: she will try to smile back.

Abrazos
