 ~~~ Story of ATSA ~~~
Welcome to the Argentine Tango Student Association (ATSA)!
 I’m Fritz, currently a second-year student in Bachelor of Creative Technology. This ATSA club was founded by Sheldon, Kelly and me; the idea is to create an association/platform that allows students all over Auckland to learn, practice and share Tango!
Never thought I would ever dance in my life until half way through the last year in high school; when I accidentally walked into a Tango Practica (a session where people practice their tango). Two years later I thought Tango is one very interesting thing that happened to me so…I thought you might like it as well (?)
Deck Outdoor Practica @ Viewing Deck, ANZ Viaduct Events Centre
Nov 29 @ 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm
A stunning outdoor venue for Practica and (hopefully!) accompanied by a nice cooling breeze!
The deck practica is a free and relaxed event to practice tango, enjoy the music and the stunning view, catch-up with friends, or just dance. Please come and join us. If you’re keen to practice Chacarera, there will be an opportunity to do so.
About the viewing deck
The viewing deck is located behind The ANZ Events Centre, Wynyard Quarter. It is an outdoor but secluded space with excellent view of the harbour. A wonderful environment for practica from sunset into the night. In the event of rain, the roof will keep us reasonably dry.
Direction
ANZ Events Centre is the building across the Wynyard Quarter Waterfront Milonga venue.
You will see a ramp up to the viewing deck on the right hand side of the ANZ Events Centre entrance, near the Wynyard Crossing (the open footbridge). Once you are on top of the deck, just simply follow the Tango music and you will find us.
On the left hand side of the building, there’s also a stairs towards the deck.
Footwear
The deck is reasonably smooth with small gaps between panels and it has been tested by the organisers in heels, dance sneakers and normal flat shoes. They don’t appear to have any trouble with the gaps. However, we would suggest ladies to bring both heels and flat shoes/dance sneakers.
Things to bring
Please bring your own drinks, food, blankets and feel free to bring your own chair, since there’s won’t be any benches around. We usually bring 2 or 3 blankets to sit on or wrap around; so if you need some, just ask.
There are coffee shop, ice cream shop, and many restaurants nearby, though they might already close at 10pm.
Toilet
There’s a public toilet available close to the venue, behind the Wynyard Quarter information centre.
Drinking water fountain
There’s one located nearby, behind the Wynyard Quarter information centre.
Parking
There’s Jellicoe Street car park, about 7 mins away from venue; at the intersection of Jellicoe & Beaumont Streets. The last time we checked an February 15th, 2017, the parking fees were as follows:
Mon-Fri 7.00am- 10.00pm (free parking after 10p).
1 hr: Free
2 hr: $6.00
3 hr: $12.00
Sat & Sun 7.00am-10.00pm (free parking after 10p).
1 hr: Free
About ANZ event centre viewing deck
The deck is part of Auckland’s newest purpose-built events space designed by Moller architects, built to allow the marine and fishing industry to continue to operate from the wharf. You can see that the gangplanks that leads to the viewing deck gives strong connections to the venue’s maritime location. The deck is a public space with spectacular view across the Waitemata harbour. It’s even better during the sunset, as you can see from some of our photos. The large overhang roof provide solar shielding in summer for the building but let the sun’s rays in winter.
