About ME Hello, I'm Kelly! Thanks for checking out this page! I started my Tango journey in London in 2009 and have been studying with some of the most well known and respected teachers in Buenos Aires since 2014. I have been teaching since founding the Argentine Tango Student Association in 2016 at the Auckland University of Technology, a platform that allows students to learn, practice and share the beauty of Tango! Tango, as we all know, is a dance with a deep soul, and its roots are firmly planted in the heart of Buenos Aires. The way the music fills the streets, the way every dancer tells their own story—it’s an experience that goes beyond technique. It’s a connection, a rhythm, a feeling that can only truly be understood when you’re part of it. In my classes, I aim to bring that very same energy here. While we may be far from Buenos Aires, the spirit of Tango is universal. Every time we dance together, we’re tapping into that beautiful, timeless tradition—a tradition of passion, emotion, and creative expression. What I love most about Tango is its freedom. There’s no perfect step, no rigid sequence. It’s about connecting with the music, your partner, with the space, with yourself and letting the dance take shape in the moment. That’s what makes Tango so rewarding. Each class is another chance to explore, to grow, and to feel the joy of dancing. Whether you’re here to refine your technique or simply to unwind after a busy week, Tango has a way of making it all feel effortless. It’s fun, it’s challenging, and above all, it’s a chance to experience something truly special. Other than teaching, I also organise social dance events (known as Milongas), DJ and perform at various events. I look forward to welcoming you to my class(es).
About the Classes I teach the authentic Tango as you would see and dance in Buenos Aires milongas and around the world. The classes are fun and informal with focus on technique, musicality and developing the partnership; to cover the basics and give you the confidence to dance socially with anyone at the Milonga. There are more to learn about the Tango than its dance form which you’ll learn during your journey with me. *What is Milonga? The term “Milonga” has three meanings: (1) A style of Tango; (2) Tango music genre; (3) A social event or location for tango dancing. Here, we are referring to (3).
Authentic Tango Tango is a culture and necessity – particularly in the hearts of Buenos Aires and Montevideo. Tango became a symbol that reflected the music and folks' way of living and emerged in the 19th Century. This style of dancing is social and unique in the genre of music. The beauty of Tango is in its improvisation; there is no set sequence or steps to follow; and we dance with different partners all the time. No two tango dances are ever the same
Class Benefits As Tango isn’t built around learning rigid steps or sequences, it’s both great fun and relaxing especially after a tough day of studying or working. It’s also a great form of exercise both physically and mentally. It’s also a fantastic way to meet people and make new friends.
Do I need to Sign Up? No sign up required.
What should I wear? Clothing that is comfortable to move around in. For footwear, wear shoes that you can pivot easily and don't stick to the wooden floor.
Direction to the Studio & Car Park? When you arrive to the address, you will see a building named "Parisian Building" on your right and on the left is a car park which is free for the dancers(**). Follow the road around to your right (Parisian Building is now on your left), you will come across a metal gate on your left, walk down the stair you will see the studio. (**) If you park behind another car in the car park, please do not assume the owner in front of you is also attending the same event as you; please leave a note and contact number on your windscreen so the owner knows where to find you or contact you. Otherwise, your car maybe at risk of being towed.

Pasión Por Tango Hosted by Kelly Poon – ![]() 8pm – Class About ME Hello, I'm Kelly!
No two tango dances are ever the same.

(**) If you park behind another car in the car park, please do not assume the owner in front of you is also attending the same event as you; please leave a note and contact number on your windscreen so the owner knows where to find you or contact you.
