The bandoneon in tango music

The following is a copy of the notes used for at a “Tango Tips” musicality interlude at the Toca Tango Practilonga in Auckland on 10 February 2025.

The mini workshop is an extension of last month’s one, in which everyone was invited to dance differently for each of 3 “sections” of the song.

Insights into the bandoneon and the sounds it can contribute to tango dance music

Evolution of bandoneon:  concertina – bi / uni sonic / chromatic
Discussion of features:   bellows – buttons – reeds
Techniques / sounds: playing  melodies and chords – legato – staccato
